Litigation & Dispute Resolution

litigation

Our core philosophy is to guide you away from the court system and to work alongside you to resolve your dispute by negotiation and mediation. This way you are much more likely to achieve your goals cost effectively and away from the glare of unwanted publicity. Skilled negotiation is second nature to our litigators and we pull out all the stops to ensure your best interests are served.

Sometimes, though, you have to bite the bullet and face the courts. You can do no better than have our fearless team of litigators at your side. We regularly appear before the full range of courts and tribunals in New Zealand, including the Court of Appeal, High Court, District Court, Environment Court, Employment Court and the Employment Relations Authority.

Typical disputes we can help you with include

  • Civil Cases
Including a variety of contractual disputes, negligence claims, Construction Contracts Act adjudications, “leaky building” issues and property disputes.
  • Fisheries
We have extensive experience on both sides of the fence, having represented fisheries in a number of cases including going to the Court of Appeal on behalf of scampi fishers and representing the Crown in several prosecutions.
  • Insolvency
Working closely with our corporate and commercial colleagues, we regularly act for receivers and liquidators in insolvency, liquidation and receivership matters.
  • Resource Management
Resource consents, water issues, appeals, district and regional plans and enforcement issues - you name it, we’ve done it.
  • Employment
Working with our Employment Law specialist, we represent employers in mediations, the Employment Relations Authority, the Employment Court and beyond.
  • Debt Recovery
We will help you recover outstanding debts painlessly and cost effectively.

Our clients regularly act as our referees and we are happy to provide contact details if you need them.
